Are you a perfectionist? Do you set the bar high for yourself? There is flip side to all this perfect that you may not be aware of. Yes wanting to be perfect puts us on the path to excellence, but it also prevents you from being your best.
Bit confused?
Well, for one thing we tend to procrastinate for that perfect moment. Something simple, tends to become overwhelming as we wait for this perfect moment that never actually strikes.
Secondly we tend to become less efficient. We linger on the one thing for way to long instead of actually getting on with it.
This need for perfect can interfere with all areas of our life. Our work is an obvious one, but also our bodies is another.
How many times have you said the diet starts tomorrow? Why… because you had a few chocolate this morning so what’s the point of starting now? Who has thought that?
Strive for progress, not perfection.
The problem with perfect is that is doesn’t exist. You cannot live up to it. All you do is create stress, anxiety, overwhelm, failure and guilt.
Doing something is better than nothing.
One thing I’ve learnt, is that just doing a little is better that doing nothing at all. If I don’t feel like training 3 times a week and only feel like once, well that is okay. If I don’t feel like doing my entire weekly to do list, and only get through half, that is okay too. It is still progress! I am still moving forward.
