When working with clients with weight loss goals, our first goal is to nourish the body adequately and to check for nutrient deficiencies. Your body can't function at its best when you have a deficiency.

If you're iron deficient, you'll likely struggle with tiredness, damping your motivation. This can make it even harder to resist that tempting chocolate or attend that gym class.

Optimal thyroid function relies on iron. Without adequate levels, your thyroid may work sub-optimally.

The thyroid plays a crucial role in the body, including regulating your metabolic rate. Low thyroid function can lead to symptoms like fatigue, unexplained weight gain, hair loss, and body temperature regulation issues. This can impede your weight loss efforts.

You could keep trying to lose weight through calorie restriction, but you're going to end up in a worse and worse place and run yourself down. You may finally lose weight, but I can't imagine your mental state or overall health will be optimal.

So when I say let's focus on your health, I say that for good reason!

Tempeh: Cook This Probiotic Food 🙌.

Tempeh is one of the best meatless protein sources available, right alongside tofu and legumes. Its earthy and nutty taste makes it perfect for all kinds of cooking.

Not only is it packed with protein (nearly 20 grams in just 100 grams!), but it's also loaded with probiotics. Tempeh is great for boosting the good bacteria in your gut, which helps with digestion, fights off harmful bacteria, reduces inflammation, and supports your immune system.

Tempeh can also be super helpful for menopausal health and is excellent for your heart and bones! Plus, it may help with those pesky hot flashes.

Cooking with tempeh is easy, it absorbs other flavours quickly. I prefer using it in stir-fries. How do you like to use it?

Social connection is an important aspect of good health, and cooking can provide that.

Whether it’s shopping at the farmers’ market, preparing delicious meals together, or setting the table for a shared meal, find opportunities to connect with others.   Getting kids involved with cooking helps with belonging and fosters a healthy food relationship. Maybe try baking some bread with your little ones 😊.

This recipe was so good! I popped a few in the freezer for when I need a delicious snack or side in a hurry.

1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 cup milk
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups plain flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped kalamata olives
1/2 cup chopped feta
1/4 cup chopped fresh dill
1/4 cup chopped fresh mint

+ Preheat oven to 170 C.

+ In a bowl combine oil, milk and eggs.

+ Add the flour, baking powder and salt into the wet ingredients. Stir well to combine.

+ Mix through the herbs, olives and feta.

+ Line a square baking dish and pour in the batter. Bake for approximately 25 minutes and golden.

It sure can.

The issue with skipping breakfast is that it can have an effect on cortisol and leptin.

I have introduced breakfast into countless women's diets, and lo and behold, weight loss has started for them.

Dysregulated cortisol patterns can lead to weight gain and hormone imbalances. If you have a particularly stressful life, a long overnight fast may not be for you.

Another significant issue with skipping breakfast is its impact on your body's ability to maintain skeletal muscle mass. Preserving and building muscle mass is a crucial part of any weight loss regime and is essential for good health regardless. Adequate protein at breakfast can help with mitigating muscle loss.

Extended fasting overnight can be a powerful tool, but no one-size-fits-all approach exists. It's crucial to see if it fits your goals and your current health status with a nutritionist.
