DNA Methylation Genetic Testing
Personalised Nutrition Based On Your DNA!
Your genetic makeup sets the stage, but your lifestyle choices determine whether certain traits are activated. Have you ever wondered why some people can thrive on a less-than-ideal diet while others are more sensitive to certain foods? Each person’s DNA is unique, so a diet that works for one person may not work for you. While we can’t change our genes, we can influence how they behave, determining whether they are activated or not.
Information about individual genes alone cannot predict disease; it is the combination of genes, environment, diet, and lifestyle that impacts our health. This is where nutrigenomics comes in.
Factors that shape the expression of genes include:
- nutrient deficiencies or excesses
- dietary components (e.g. omega-3 fats, phytoestrogens, cruciferous vegetables, carotenoids and more)
- toxins (e.g. pollution, plastics, pesticides, heavy metals and more)
- bacteria and viruses
- exercise
- alcohol, medication, and drugs
- circadian rhythms
- sunlight
- emotional and physical stress
DNA screening provides comprehensive information about your unique genetic profile to optimise your health. It’s all about personalisation. When we test the DNA, variations called SNPs found can affect the way cells function. E.g., if you have an SNP in numerous detoxification genes, you may need liver support compared to someone who doesn’t. You may also be more sensitive to chemicals. T
There are many genes that are tested, ones related to detoxification, macro nutrient dietary preference, mental health, the way nutrients are absorbed, fertility and more.
Benefits of a Health DNA test:
- Reduced diabetes risk
- Heart health and blood pressure regulation
- Healthier ageing
- Menopause support
- Hormonal balance
- Better sleeping patterns
- Decreased inflammation
- Increased energy and vitality
- Improved fertility
- Improved mental health
- Weight reduction or management strategies
What is covered?
The test covers an extensive 92 genes, and 113 SNP’s across the following categories:
The report shows a genetic strength and weaknesses summary for each section. This helps us to identify key focus areas for health, comparing areas that are doing well, to the areas of concern or where you could improve.
Other Features
- A personalised shopping list that highlights good sources of macro and micronutrient requirements.
- Suggested blood tests to further analyses certain findings from the DNA test.
How to order a test:
- Make an appointment for an initial consultation to discuss your needs and arrange the testing to get the most out of it.
- Your test will be delivered to you and you’ll perform your swab.
- Book a follow up appointment in 4 weeks. At this comprehensive appointment, you will be given a detailed report of your DNA results and a specific and individualised wellness plan, including dietary and lifestyle recommendations, to ‘optimise your genes’ and improve your current and long-term health.
Keep in mind that DNA testing will incur an additional cost alongside the consultations.
Your DNA doesn’t change. This is the great thing about the test; throughout your lifetime, you can go back and delve a little deeper into your DNA results for better health.
If you know your DNA you can actively reduce the risks associated with your SNPs. This is preventative health care.
Did you know?
- approximately 40% of all people carry an MTHFR SNP, putting them at higher risk for preventable heart disease, colon cancer, stroke, and Alzheimer’s disease. Having the SNP also could have pregnancy complications (1) and affect fertility.
- people with MAO and COMT SNPs are predisposed to having too much adrenaline in the body. This means they are more susceptible to anxiety, worry and pain sensitivity.
