Nutritional Medicine

Nutritional medicine is a holistic and science-based approach to the interactions of both nutrition and environment on human health. All humans are unique in terms of biochemistry, metabolism, anatomy, and genetics. Nutritional medicine works with the body as a whole; the systems of the body interact together.

Many health conditions stem from nutrition deficiencies. Deficiencies are far more common than people think. A lack of nutrients can be due to farming methods, poor soil quality, drugs (prescription and recreational), toxins in our environment (cosmetics, household cleaners, pollution), food processing, digestive issues, and poor food choices.

The world we live in is extremely different from our ancestors. The pressure we put on our bodies physically, socially and emotionally causes more chronic disease than anything else. Our bodies are not designed to digest and break down processed foods, chemicals or synthetics. Residual toxicity, genetics, environmental factors, lifestyle, and chronic illness are the many reasons why we are functioning at less than our optimum. 

A nutritionist asks the questions, “What has caused this problem?” and “What can we do to restore function using food as medicine and lifestyle changes?”. In other words, t is about finding out the root cause and not just covering up the symptoms.
