“I’m exercising but not losing fat”.
Does this sound familiar?
This is an all too common complaint I hear my clients say is.
Before I give you the common reason’s why I want you to understand that there is a difference between losing weight and maintaining weight. When you are trying to lose fat you must go beyond just simply eating well and exercising a few times a week. The body must experience a calorie deficit, ie, the body must burn up more calories than consumed.
In other words, the weight you are is a result of how much you eat and how much energy your body burns. If you want to lose fat then you need to burn up calories through exercise or eating less. The calorie deficit is the number of calories which is less than your amount of calories that maintains your weight.
A combination of eating less and exercising works best for fat loss and keeping it off.
But unfortunately, people do not tend to do this. They eat the same and think going to the gym twice a week is enough. It is not if you are mostly sedentary the rest of the time.
Another mistake people make is that they compensated for having exercised. They will feel hungry and therefore eat more. Or, because they are sore or tired from the gym, they spend the day lazying around and not moving! A gym workout is at most 60 minutes of a day. That is not much activity if the rest of your day is spent on your backside.
Often people do not even realize they are doing less since starting an exercise regime.
Exercise can make you more hungry. You can eat a small snack to allow for this, but 100 – 200 calories at most. Do not go to the coffee shop afterward and load up on a muffin aka cake with an inflammatory dairy milk coffee! A small banana is sufficient enough. Remember it is okay to be hungry and to wait a few hours until meal time. Nothing is going to happen. You are not losing muscle.
The key here is to be aware of what you are doing. If you are aware of it you can change it.
If you want a structured weight loss and fitness plan contact Elizabeth for both your personal training and nutrition.
Sometimes we need accountability.
Combing both personal training or exercise with nutrition will put you on the path to success. Weight loss nutritional consultations provide motivation to stay on track with regular weigh-ins and assessments to review what is or what is not going well with the diet. Weight loss is never static and therefore a plan must change regularly.
Don’t make the mistake of keeping your plan static and wondering why nothing is changing.
